Breaking early today to head downtown and catch a screening of Adam. (Thanks, James.) In my absence, enjoy the above slice o’ lyrical genius from MF Doom (or, as he now prefers to be called, DOOM). Any rapper who knows his Star Trek minutiae is worthy of only the highest praise.

+1 for the Father Guido Sarducci and Charo references as well. That’s showing you can go to your left in terms of hip-hop allusions.

@Gramsci: Doom is nothing if not a master of ’70s pop-culture trivia.

Doom spat what is for my money one of the best rhymes in all of recorded hip hop:
Land of milk and honey with the swirls/
where reckless nekkid girls get necklaces of pearls

@Norm: Oh yeah, that’s a classic.
Let’s face it: I could do a whole month’s worth of posts consisting of nothing more than epic Doom couplets. When the A.V. Club reviewed his latest album, the comments section quickly filled up with about 400 lyrics. The man has so many devotees, yet deserves so many more.
Or, to quoth an inferior rhymer (Freddie Foxx): “Who has celebrity status but is still underrated?”
