We’ve literally got less than 24 hours ’til the Now the Hell Will Start screenplay draft is due, so once again, no time for deep afternoon thoughts. Instead, take a mental load off and enjoy an unfortunately attired Debbie Harry doing “Call Me” with a bunch of super-funky Muppets. The extraordinarily brief, theremin-like synth solo at the 1:35 mark will haunt your dreams.

“theremin-like” — triple 20. The Muppet Show was so interesting. I mean, they didn’t want Blondie to just lip-synch the released track a la American Bandstand– they wanted a unique rendition, weird solo and all.

@Gramsci: It really is an incredible show. I got on a Swedish Chef kick a few weeks ago, and was struck by how well the clips hold up 30 years later. The same goes for the first movie–check out the Steve Martin appearance, in particular. (To this day, I still haul out that great chestnut: “Would you like to smell the bottlecap?”)
In a year or two, I’m gonna have to invest in some of the DVDs. Microkhan Jr. will love ’em.
