We’re prepping to head downtown for the 20th anniversary screening of Do the Right Thing, a momentous occasion that has us on yet another ’80s nostalgia kick. It thus bears mentioning that another great cultural artifact is celebrating an important milestone this year— turns 23! And what better way to mark the occasion than with the clip above. Seriously, we’ll defend the grandeur of the show’s opening theme until our dying breath. The Yngwie Malmsteen-inspired guitar solo that kicks in at the 34-second mark? Glorious. Absolutely glorious.

You outer-space-vacuum defying, pointless wing spreading, nerves of steel having, proto-Poochy 10 gallon hat and guitar sporting Superfriend wannabe, go the f&*% back to 1986…

@Gramsci: Not a Col. Bluegrass fan, huh?

More like a fan of DtRT.

Heh heh…yeah, forgot about that classic riff. Well played, well played…
It’ll be my wife’s first time seeing DtRT. Haven’t seen it myself in ages–last time mighta been ten years ago, while I was traveling around Ireland and watched it with a Cork family nice enough to take me in. Remember having a very interesting post-movie discussion, esp. with their young sons.

Wow, I’d forgotten how much they ripped (themselves) off of ThunderCats…
Brendan I. Koerner // Jun 30, 2009 at 4:22 pm
@thingsbreak: Oh yeah. Copied the ThunderCats template right down to using a second capital letter in the middle of the title. Rankin/Bass was no great fount of creativity.
As an aside, count me among the zillions might curious ’bout the ThunderCats movie. If you haven’t caught it already, this completely fictional trailer (made frame-by-frame in Photoshop!) is worth a look:

Yeah, I thought the fan trailer was pretty impressive. Maybe second to the Nathan Fillion Green Later fan trailer, but still makes me intrigued about what the real flick may have to offer.

Green Lantern… tarnation.
