Tending to Microkhan Jr. has given us a newfound appreciation for great kiddie fare of yore, most notably the late, great Muppet empire. And do when we stumbled across this clip of various Henson creations “auditioning” for the role of Yoda, we couldn’t resist the urge to pass it along. Honestly, we could totally see Animal tackling the role—especially in those lightsaber fight scenes. His technique would probably be very Drunken Master-ish.

Thanks to a dedicated netflix queue, I can shape my son’s cultural development with precision. “The Muppet Movie” was the latest arrival, and it was hilarious. The cameos of classic and then contemporary stars (who later became classics on their own – Steve Martin, Richard Pryor, Cloris Leachman) was a new revelation. He loved the same gags I remember: “Turn left at the fork in the road,” “No animal, you beat drums, not eat them.” The jokes for the adults were just as good.

@scottstev: I’ve long argued that Steve Martin’s performance in that flick is an unrecognized comic masterpiece: “Would you like to…*smell* the bottlecap?”
Up until college, I only knew Orson Welles as the fat guy who orders up the standard rich-and-famous contract. Turns out he did a bit of directing himself, though.
