Writing up the Kenya piece through the lunch hour; hopefully back to Microkhan-ing in the mid-p.m. In the meantime, enjoy a little Syl Johnson—yet another soul nugget that the RZA feasted upon during the Wu-Tang Golden Age. This came on Radio Nova last night just as our stress level was beginning to peak; rarely has a shot of sonic calmness been so welcome.

On the Syl Johnson tip, he’s touring with the Numero Group Eccentric Soul Revue this fall.

Also IIRC Numero is prepping a massive (4CD?) Syl Johnson retrospective for 2010.

@hubcap: How is it that I wasn’t aware of Numero before your rec? Great stuff–a “multi-format media company” after Microkhan’s own heart. Thanks a mil for steering me in their direction.

Dunno, but it seems up your alley. You can also get an annual subscription, for $100 they send you every regular release that year. I dig it immensely. Getting a random CD every two months and having no idea whether I’ll like it or not takes me back to my record-buying days. But it’s definitely more good than bad.
IMO most of the stuff in the Eccentric Soul series kills. Smart’s Palace, Deep City, Prix, Twinight, Bandit…it’s a rich trove of awesome.
